An official CrossFit, Inc. affiliate since 2011, CrossFit Sandstorm is part of a world-wide community of over 11,000 individually owned and operated training facilities. Throughout this community we preach the philosophy of constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity.
The Average Joe / Jill
By far, ordinary people make up the bulk our CrossFit community. These are the people you may see at work, at the mall or at the grocery store: professionals, mechanics, teachers, artists, programmers, skilled tradesmen, etc. These are the people who have tried every method of weight loss and fitness training available and have not seen the results they hoped for. What makes these athletes unique is their will-power. No matter how difficult the WOD may appear 1) they always show up 2) they leave everything on the floor to improve their health and fitness (usually for the sake of family and loved ones).
The Former Athlete
We all know the former gymnast, track star, baseball, football, soccer, hockey, tennis, (etc) player who has a love for competition. These former athletes turn to CrossFit Sandstorm to re-live the glory days of high intensity training and competition. They come excited every day ready to give 100% in the hopes of having the best time or score for the WOD. They thrive off of blood, sweat and tears and push themselves through every obstacle.
First Responders & Military
Most of us do not count on our fitness to save our lives but that's exactly what those who wear the uniform must do. Each day they must be ready for the unknown and unknowable because their duty demands it. Whether it be a wildalnd fire at 10,000 feet, a foot pursuit of an active shooter, the rescue of a homeless person from a flooded arroyo or hunting down the enemy on foreign soil, these unique individuals must constantly be prepared for life and death situations. They come to CrossFit Sandstorm knowing that the harder they push themselves during a WOD, the better chance they having of helping others in need, and coming home safely.
The Current Athlete
Competitive grapplers, skiers, runners, triathletes, high school and collegiate athletes all in search of the competitive advantage; they walk in our doors knowing that CrossFit provides the training needed for their chosen specialty and commit countless hours per week to strength and conditioning in order to gain the advantage. The results of their hard training and constant perseverance translates directly into higher ranks, scores, times and victories.
Active Adults and Beyond
We all know that as we age we must stay active. CrossFit Sandstorm is home to many adults who are looking to stay active and mobile as the years creep up. These wonderful athletes want to stay healthy, enjoy retirement, enjoy time with grandkids and enjoy the fruits of the labor. They are focused on doing every movement right, slowing down when needed and (typically) don't concern themselves with scores or times. They are in it to live and for that, showing up to the WOD is a victory in and of itself. They are the inspiration for every other athlete at CrossFit Sandstorm as they give hope to those who need it most.

Originally from Tampa, FL Shellie is a West Point graduate, former Captain in the US Army and is a Bronze Star recipient (OIF). At West Point, she was a 4 year member of the USMA Crew Team. In 2013 Shellie competed in the IPL World Championships of Powerlifting in Las Vegas, NV and took home the bronze medal in the 132lbs. raw division posting a 307.5kg total. In 2014 Shellie dropped down to the 123lbs. raw division and set a USPA Elite Total of 320kgs. In September of 2015, Shellie became the first woman in NM to earn IFBB Pro status in the Women's Physique Division (WPD) after competing in the IFBB North American Championships in Pittsburgh, PA.

CrossFit Level 1
CJ is originally from Santo Domingo Pueblo and is half Navajo. He was raised in both Albuquerque and Santa Fe and attended Santa Fe Indian School; after which he attended Luna Community College in Las Vegas, NM where he played baseball. He honorably served in the U.S. Army carrying out two deployments, one in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan. During his second tour in Afghanistan, CJ received the Purple Heart. CJ now attends CNM and is close to receiving his Associates Degree in Exercise Science.

Originally from Somers, New York, Jim was a 5 year member and 2 year captain of the University at Buffalo mens soccer team earning all-conference accolades in 1996. After college, Jim explored the ultrarunning circuit and completed several trail marathons including the Bataan Death March (NM), the Valles Caldera Marathon (NM), the Vermont 50 (VT), the Jemez Mountain 50 (NM) and the Avalon 50 mile ultramarathon (CA). In 2010, Jim transitioned into CrossFit and currently competes in the Masters Division (40-44) where he finished 9th in the state for the 2016 Open. In the winter Jim can be found hiking the ridge at Taos Ski Valley and during the fall, you can find him wondering the NM mountains hunting elk and deer.

Originally from Spring Glen, Pennsylvania Kevin is a retired Air Force Intelligence Officer with tours in Iraq and Bosnia. He has been a member of Crossfit Sandstorm for almost 5 years and currently competes in the Masters Division (50-54), where he finished 3rd in the state in the 2016 Open. Kevin has three podium finishes in the past year and a half at local Crossfit competitions in both individual and coed teams. He also holds 4 New Mexico State Powerlifting records in the 45-49 age bracket.

Hilario is a highly motivated person with an expansive background in health and physical fitness. As a young child he was involved in gymnastics, football, martial arts, and rodeo. After high school he enlisted with the US Marines and after serving, he continued his education in health and fitness by pursuing a degree in Athletic Training. Upon graduation, he became a Certified Personal Trainer as well as a group fitness instructor, a competitive bodybuilder and a triathlete. After 10 years of being certified in the fields of health and fitness, Hilario obtained his CrossFit Certification and has been competing for the past 3 years.
